How to succeed in business: advice from Dragons' Den star Levi Roots

Dragons' Den star Levi Roots was in Bristol today, sharing some secrets of his success.

His idea - a homemade recipe for Reggae Reggae barbeque sauce - grew into a multi-million pound business after he made an appearence on the TV show Dragons' Den.

He told us how to catch the eye of potential investors:

He was speaking at Business Showcase South West, a two-day event in Bristol celebrating the best of local creativity, enterprise and sustainability.

Such exhibitions are also an opportunity for new and budding entrepreneurs to network - something which Levi says was absolutely key to his own success:

I really think it's crucial, it's the be-all and end-all, getting out there amongst others, getting information. All my information about food and sauce and spices came from going to exhibitions.

I think one of the most beautiful things about exhibitions and events like this is trying to find a mentor. Somebody who really inspires you or who knows a bit about your ideas and can help you to unlock those doors that you face in business. I found my first mentor at a similar exhibition and she was invaluable.
