Exclusive: Staff 'scared to death' at the prospect of Nick Gargan returning to work

A serving Avon and Somerset police officer has told ITV News that some staff are 'scared to death' at the prospect of Chief Constable Nick Gargan returning to work.

Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens is now facing calls to sack Nick Gargan after he was found guilty of eight misconduct charges earlier this month.

Mr Gargan is poised to return next month, but ITV News has learnt that some inside the force believe that would discredit the reputation of the entire organisation.

Richard Payne has this exclusive report - the police officer from Avon & Somerset is voiced by an actor:

In response to this report Mr Gargan told ITV News:

I understand that members of the constabulary, and indeed the public, will have questions. I will happily address these as best I can, once this lengthy process is over. I acknowledge that this has been a very difficult period for all those concerned, especially members of Avon and Somerset Constabulary and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, as well as my family. I am very much looking forward to returning to work and, alongside colleagues, beginning the process of rebuilding confidence in the force and serving the communities of Avon and Somerset.
