During a visit to Plymouth, Chancellor George Osborne has set out his new plans to open up more green spaces to create more affordable housing.
Aiming to tackle the housing crisis head on, Mr Osborne wants more rural areas to create homes which will be sold to buyers with a 20% discount.
The Chancellor spoke to ITV News West Country today about the plans:
But opponents say that such a decision will destroy the character of many of our rural villages.
Protests have been taking place in Ivybridge, just down the road from the factory where the Chancellor was visiting, to stop 65 new homes being built.
