Faster routes between Cornwall and London are to open up after the airline Flybe announced it will provide bigger and faster planes from Newquay airport.

New jet engine planes will carry 118 passengers at a time between Newquay and Gatwick - that's 40 more passengers per flight.

The journey will also be ten minutes shorter than at present.

Available seats leaving the airport every year.
The new journey time will allow people to reach the capitol more quickly.

It's hoped that the increased capacity will be good news for Cornwall's economy:

We know that this service is hugely important for businesses in Cornwall, with a large number of people regularly using the route to travel to and from London.

– Adam Paynter, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources

The CEO of Flybe says the upgrade is "much-needed" and will help meet increased passenger demand.

This is fantastic news.

The connection between Newquay and Gatwick is a hugely important link for both the business community and the tourism sector. The airport is already a brilliant resource for Cornwall and I hope this announcement will help the airport build on its successes
