'We couldn't be prouder' - Siobhan's parents react to her win

The parents of Siobhan-Marie O'Connor say they couldn't be prouder of their daughter with her silver medal.

Speaking from Rio, her parents Lindsey and Sean, and her brother, said they were relieved Siobhan's hard work had paid off.

We saw her after with the media things that were going on and we spoke to her on the phone immediately after - we spent a bit of time with her and she is as you can expect. She's tweeted to say she's dreamed about this every day since she was seven-years-old - so you can imagine how she is feeling.

It was lovely to be able to give her a hug and see her briefly. We had a little five minute chat with her, so it was lovely. Emotional, but lovely.

But, mum Lindsey admitted she couldn't watch for the first 100m as Siobhan took to the water - finally looking up in her penultimate discipline.

That's a little different to how her mother, Siobhan's grandma watched:

Her family added they were able to breathe a sigh of relief after 150m when they realised Siobhan was set to get a medal - and began enjoying the race.
