Dog found injured on the A38 in Kennford now thought to have run across the road after escaping from home

Police investigating how a dog came to be left injured on the A38 in Devon say they now believe it may have escaped form home before becoming hurt.

Officers responded to reports the dog had been thrown from a vehicle near Kennford services yesterday afternoon.

The black King Charles Spaniel was found with broken legs and is now thought to have sustained its injuries by running across the road.

Police will now review CCTV to found out how the dog got on to the road in the first place.

In a statement Devon & Cornwall Police said:

We are currently working under the impression that the dog had escaped from its home and ran across the road and sustained its injuries this way.

The dog is currently still receiving treatment at the vets and its owners have been located and made aware.

We will update the public once all enquiries have been completed.
