The vandals who destroyed a popular Christmas display at a hotel in Wells have come forward after the heartbroken hotelier asked them to give themselves up.

Thousands of pounds of damage was caused to the alpine snow scene at the Swan Hotel early on Sunday, 18th December. One of the steps into the antique German snow sleigh was snapped off and the ornamental display reindeer were broken with their legs smashed to pieces.

The hotel enjoys creating the festive scene for the community every year and it is admired by thousands.

It is such a shame that a few over-spirited people spoil it for others. It takes lots of planning, time, effort and investment to create these stunning displays. I am heartbroken at these actions.

– Mark Tobin, General Manager, Swan Hotel

The hotel has not reported the incident to the authorities. It had clear CCTV footage of what happened but decided to wait 24 hours before contacting police in the hope that those involved would get in touch.
