A Somerset school has been rated "inadequate" overall by Ofsted inspectors.
The report found that Taunton Academy "requires significant improvement, because it is performing significantly less well than it might in all the circumstances reasonably be expected to perform".
Taunton Academy's head teacher agrees that improvement is needed but feels not enough time has been given for her to turn things around. Jenny Veal only took charge in January 2016, appointed for her strong track record in school reform, but changes take time.
The inspectors did praise Mrs Veal for bringing the school through a period of uncertainty, halting any decline in standards.
They also recognised the ethos of care for the students, mentioning the strong staff student relationships and very good pastoral support.
