One of Somerset’s most high profile journalists is to join ITV News West Country. Ben McGrail, who presents the mid-morning programme on BBC Somerset, is to take up a new role covering Somerset stories for ITV.

Ben’s radio programme has recently posted record listening figures and is the most-listened to programme at BBC Somerset – his audience almost doubled in the last year. In his 6 years at the station he’s covered all the big stories from the Somerset floods, to the M5 crash and the Hinkley Point C development. His journalism has won him many admirers and many awards, including a coveted Sony Award for ‘Journalist of the Year’.

ITV has a great connection with its viewers in the West Country. Somerset is a beautiful place, full of fascinating people and it’s my home – I love living here. I’m thrilled to be joining the team at ITV News West Country at an exciting time for the programme and I’m looking forward to telling Somerset’s stories to viewers.

– Ben McGrail

Ben will be based at ITV’s office in Wellington and will be using new technology to enable him to broadcast live from across the county at a moment's notice. He’ll join the team in the coming weeks.

Ben is a terrific journalist and has a real passion for Somerset. He has an excellent reputation for understanding what matters to people in the county, and for holding decision makers to account. I’m delighted he’s bringing his enthusiasm and commitment to ITV News.
