A Bristol woman who made a video pleading not to be put in a care home will be rehoused according to Bristol City Council.

Janet Gunningham is now in a wheelchair after a miraculous recovery from a stroke.

She faced being moved into a care home because her own home in Hartcliffe is not properly adapted.

The council says Mrs Gunningham can soon move into a new property in Ashton Vale with her family.

We are pleased that Mr and Mrs Gunningham have accepted our offer to rehouse the family in a property that is more suitable to their needs. We appreciate their patience and understanding whilst we’ve worked with them to find a solution to their housing needs.

Whilst much of the media focus has been on investigating the potential of adapting the house in Hartcliffe, officers working with Mr and Mrs Gunningham have also been researching alternative options of ensuring the family can remain together. Following an investigation by experienced surveyors it’s clear that the construction type of the family’s current home is not suitable for adaptations meaning a move to a different property is more appropriate. The new property in Ashton Vale will soon be ready after a little work and with some support from our Housing team the family will be together again and supporting Mrs Gunningham’s recovery.
