A number of staff members at a hospital in Somerset have been suspended after a complaint of verbal abuse by a patient.
An investigation is being carried out at the Dene Barton Community Hospital in the village of Cotford St Luke near Taunton.
Although the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the ward in question, has not confirmed the number of staff suspended, it has confirmed the number as "several". The suspension was ordered as a precaution whilst the investigation goes on.
The Trust runs one ward at the hospital, which has 14 beds. The allegations do not relate to the other ward in the hospital, run by Musgrove Park Hospital.
The Trust also told our Somerset Correspondent, Ben McGrail, that the patient who made these allegations of verbal abuse is no longer in care there.
It currently remains unclear as to how long the investigation will go on for nor how long the suspended members of staff will remain so.
Dene Barton Community Hospital provides rehabilitation care in recovery from disease, trauma or nervous system disorders.
