There have been major delays on the M5 in south Gloucestershire, following the closure of two northbound lanes.
Investigation work is being carried out between Junction 14 Thornbury and Junction 16 Aztec West, following an earlier accident, in which a pedestrian died after being hit by a lorry.
There is currently queueing traffic and no access to the M5 through the M4. Surrounding roads near the motorway are also heavily affected.
Authorities are currently using specialist cleaning equipment, while the recovery of the vehicle is almost completed.
The lanes have been closed since 4:45am this morning and is likely to remain in place for few hours, while Avon and Somerset Police are at the scene.
Police say the crash involved at least one vehicle.
The congestion extends to M5 Junction 18A for the M49.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, while drivers caught in the closures are being turned.
- Travel advice:
There is a diversion from Junction 16 to follow the A38 northbound and re-join at the M5 at the Junction 14 Solid Triangle.
Traffic heading towards the M5 on the M4 westbound may exit at Junction 15 Swindon, taking the A419 and A417 northbound, re-joining the M5 northbound at Junction 11A.
