Polecat rescued from 15ft drain in Somerset

A polecat has been rescued by the RSPCA after falling into a 15ft drain.

The animal was trapped in the drain at the sewerage treatment works in Creech St Michael, near Taunton.

A worker spotted the animal and contacted the RSPCA.

Ms Scully says she was unable to go down into the drain because of the poor weather conditions so she contacted the fire and rescue service.

They arrived promptly, got a long ladder into the hole and coaxed him into the carrier and pulled him up. He is now recuperating at RSPCA West Hatch before we release him back into the wild.
