A group of residents in south Bristol used their cars to circle a green area in their cul-de-sac to stop travellers from moving in.

The local families 'circled wagons' on Sunday, 17 September, with fears the rovers were about to pitch up on it, after a group of people towing caravans pulled off the main road and into their estate.

One resident in Stavordale Grove, Hengrove, south Bristol said many people who live in the area were celebrating a child's birthday when the alert went out.

A group of them with their huge caravan descended upon our small cul-de-sac. However we were all out there celebrating a child's birthday and told them where to go, the residents parked on the green to stop them.

Now we are staying parked there in fear they may return."
