A man from Newton Abbot has been jailed for three years for selling drugs to a teenager who later died.

Jacob Khanlarian, 20, admitted supplying MDMA to Leah Kerry, 15, before her death in July this year.

Leah Kerry suffered an overdose when she was out with friends in Baker's Park in Newton Abbot. She was taken to Torbay District Hospital at 3am, but later died.

Leah Kerry's family described her death as the "most painful experience that we have all ever had to endure."

"Leah was a kind and loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin, grand-daughter and great grand-daughter her loss has had a profound impact especially on her parents, aunts and uncles, cousins, grand-parents and her younger brother who is struggling to adjust to a future without his big sister."

Refuse collector Khanlarian had been dealing cannabis since he was 16 and ecstasy for two years.

He handed himself into the police after Leah's death and wrote a note to the judge at Exeter Crown Court setting out his remorse.

It said:"I understand the severity of my case. There is nothing I can do now to change what happened. I just want to say how terribly sorry I am for the pain and grief I have caused the girl's family and friends."
