Police are appealing for witnesses after a girl in Bristol was struck in the face by a rock in a racially aggravated assault.

Avon and Somerset Police say the incident happened between 8am and 8.30am on Friday, 15 September on Hollywood Road in Brislington.

The victim described hearing a male and female voice before the rock was thrown at her.

Police say they are treating the assault as racially aggravated due to the words used by the offenders.

Investigating officer PC Amberley Harris said the incident has left the girl "scared to walk outside alone".

It is only by chance she was not badly injured and we’re taking this extremely seriously. Any hate crime is unacceptable but one involving a young girl is particularly shocking.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 101.

Officers also say if people do not want to contact the police directly they can use an independent agency or report it online via the True Vision website.
