Historic bell stolen from garden attraction in St Austell

A large bronze bell, worth £8,000, has been stolen from public gardens in St Austell.

The Warner Bros London 1884 bell was taken from Pine Lodge Gardens at Holmbush overnight on 7-8 November.

The bell is two feet tall, with a diameter of two feet and weighs around a quarter of a tonne.

It was suspended on a steel chain within a brick wall at the roadside entrance to the gardens.

Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing to anyone who may have come across anything suspicious at the gardens.

They are also appealing to anyone who may been offered the bell for sale, particularly scrap metal, second-hand or antique dealers.
