A seaside town in Devon has been branded the bossiest in Britain by a national newspaper after an online review said its warning signs were creating a 'Big Brother' atmosphere.

The signs prompted one visitor to leave a Tripadvisor review which said there were less signs to be found at a top secret military base.

The Mayor of Dawlish admits the signs are giving a "negative impression" of the popular coastal resort, famed for its unusual black swans.

Martin Wrigley says that part of the problem is that new signs are put up without the old ones being removed first.

As a result of the internet storm, the town council and Chamber of Trade have called a meeting of everyone who puts up signs in Dawlish.

It may mean some new and fewer notices in the future - watch this space.
