A Devon care home has become one of the first places in the UK to use robotic pets as therapy for its elderly residents.

The pets, KC the dog and Keno the pony, are designed to be a source of comfort, especially for residents with advanced dementia.

The animals at Care South’s Kenwith Castle at Abbotsham, respond to touch and sound and can provide much needed stimulation, comfort and companionship.

They have proved a big hit, with staff saying they are impressed with the results and it has definitely brought a smile to some resident's faces.

The Care South home also have live therapy animals that visit but the robotic ones are there on a permanent basis and can be used at anytime.
