Bristol City Council has announced proposals to introduce parking charges on streets on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The authority says it will increase the turnover of vehicles in the centre of the city leading to more trade for shops.
Some people believe however that higher prices will drive away the public.
Bristol's car parks currently charge customers but in many areas of the city, on-street parking is free on Sundays.
Under new plans, the city centre would require pay-and-display tickets at all times.
A consultation has started and will run until May.
