10,000 runners are preparing to take to the streets of Bristol this weekend for the 30th Great Bristol Half Marathon.

Joining them will be Somerset dad Greg Sumner who almost died in a car crash. In 2012 he was a passenger in a car being driven by a friend who'd been drinking. That night his life changed forever.

"Went on to the other side of the road in a head on car crash leaving four kids without Dads, two men dead."

Greg survived, just. He suffered brain injuries and is having to do the 13.1 mile route in a battery operated wheelchair and is raising money for the brain injury charity Headway.

Greg's sister Abi will be doing the half marathon with him

Greg now works with Avon and Somerset Fire and Rescue talking to young people about drink driving. A living example of what can go wrong.

"I had 27 broken bones and in the coma my heart completely stopped on four separate occasions and being where I am now all that has left me feeling very lucky."

He needs to be accompanied so he's roped in his sister Abi to go round with him. He's wants to make as much out of life as possible and to do everything he can for and with his family.

Greg tries to get the most out of life and spend time with family

Although Greg is in a powered wheelchair his injuries still make the half marathon a mental and physical challenge. If it goes well his next target id to give the London Marathon a go.
