Flora Day Celebrations

The weather couldn't have timed it better. After last night's heavy rain, the clouds parted this morning just in time for the start of one of the region's most colourful pageants.

Flora Day in Helston in Cornwall went ahead in glorious weather.

Dancers of all ages tripped their way around the streets of Helston. And among the crowds was a familiar face more used to life on another street.

Katherine Pascoe and Mark Stevens were chosen as the lead dancers for the main dance celebrations. They didn't know each other before today and had to keep the news a closely guarded secret.

Natalie Gumede who plays Kirsty in Coronation Street is spending her holiday in Helston. She says a similar Flora Day celebration could be well received on Coronation Street.

Karen Sarilar is a primary school teacher accompanying her class whilst they take part in the children's dance to celebrate Flora day. Some six-year-olds are even dancing for the first time.
