A minute's silence will be observed this morning as church congregations in Dorset give prayer to the crew of a sunken fishing boat.

The wreck of the Purbeck Isle was discovered yesterday lying 10 miles off Portland at a depth of 50 metres. The boat's life raft was found with it on the seabed.

The body of skipper David McFarlane, 35, was found on Friday whilst the search for two of the missing fishermen was called off yesterday afternoon.

The missing fishermen - named locally as Robert Prowse, 23, and Jack Craig, 22 - have not been seen since leaving Weymouth on Thursday morning.

The Reverend Richard Franklin of the Holy Trinity Weymouth with St Nicholas in Weymouth said a minute's silence would be observed in services at the church today.

Body found is missing skipper

A body recovered from the sea off the coast of Dorset has been identified as the skipper of the Purbeck Isle fishing boat, David McFarlane.

35 year old Mr McFarlane, from Weymouth, was one of three on board the boat which went missing on Thursday.

Mr McFarlane's family have asked for privacy as they come to terms with his loss.

The wreck of Purbeck Isle has been identified as lying ten miles off the coast of Portland.

Survey ship the Odyssey Explorer discovered the wreck at a depth of 50 metres.

Dorset Police have confirmed that a body found at sea yesterday is one of the missing fishermen.

Body recovered from the sea by coastguard

Hopes are fading for two missing fishermen whose boat vanished at sea after a body believed to be that of their third crew member was recovered by coastguard search teams.

The men, named locally as 37-year-old skipper David MacFarland, crewman Robert Prowse, 23, and Jack Craig, 22, have not been seen or heard from since leaving Weymouth on their 36ft boat, the Purbeck Isle, on Thursday.

Hopes fade for missing fishermen

Hopes are fading for three Weymouth fishermen missing since Thursday morning, after coastguards found an object on the sea bed.

The men have been named locally as 37-year-old skipper David McFarland, crewman Robert Prowse, 23, and Jack Craig, 22.

They have not been seen or heard from since leaving Weymouth on their 36ft boat, the Purbeck Isle.

Searches have been underway off the Dorset coast since they were reported missing at around 6pm on Thursday.

Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesman Fred Caygill said teams are hoping to send down specialist equipment to look at an object, a similar size to that of the Purbeck Isle, discovered on the sea bed by a survey ship with sonar equipment.

Missing trawler - body found

The body of a man believed to be one of three missing fisherman has been found. The other men are also feared dead after their trawler failed to return from a fishing trip. The alarm was raised after the Purbeck Isle didn't return home to Weymouth yesterday evening. Next of kin have been informed.
