An 11-year-old boy remains in hospital tonight in a serious condition after falling 30ft down Cheddar Gorge. The child was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital by Portland coastguard helicopter.
A major rescue operation took place late this afternoon after reports that an 11-year-old boy had fallen down Cheddar Gorge. Rescue volunteers have described how the boy, who was with his mother, fell off a rocky outcrop onto a gravel ledge, landing on his face.
The boy suffered a head injury and is said to be in a serious condition at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital having been airlifted there by Portland Coastguard.
