The Poppy Appeal was launched at various ceremonies around the region today. The Royal British Legion is hoping to top last year's record breaking total of £40 million.
Our Defence correspondent John Andrews went to Dartington where the Military Wives Choir and Stephen Spielberg's film of War Horse have helped focus attention on Devon servicemen, past and present.
The 2012 Poppy Appeal has been launched in Devon with some singing help.
The Military Wives Choir performed, as did Poppy Mills, 15, from Plymouth, who has recorded the Appeal's official song.
Poppy says the appeal has great significance for people today.
The Military Wives' Choir will help launch this year's Poppy Appeal in Devon this morning. School children and members of the Royal British Legion will be attending the ceremony at Dartington Hall near Totnes. The Choir will perform their number one hit "Wherever you are".
