Duke of Edinburgh in Plymouth

The University of Plymouth says its new marine centre heralds a 'new dawn' for renewable energy in the region. It was officially opened today by the Duke of Edinburgh, who also received an honorary doctorate in recognition of his career in the Royal Navy.

A giant wave tank and ship simulator are part of the 19 million pound complex. It's designed to become a centre of excellence for coastal erosion research and offshore renewable energy. Our Plymouth Correspondent Jonathan Gibson was there.

The Duke of Edinburgh has unveiled a new building today at Plymouth University.

The £19 million Marine building will house the country's most sophisticated wave tank testing facility and state-of-the-art ship simulator.

The Duke was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Marine Science in recognition of his naval career.

The Duke of Edinburgh will unveil a new building at Plymouth's University later today.
