Stormy weather hampers efforts to protect a section of coastline in east Devon.
Cllr Phil Twiss from East Devon District Council :
"When we arranged for the material to be diverted to Port Royal, we knew there was a chance it could be washed away in a storm. We said at the time that it was a calculated risk. Unfortunately, nature has had the last laugh this time".
Efforts to protect a section of coastline near Sidmouth have been hampered by recent stormy weather.
Cliffs at Pennington Point were to be shored up with shingle dredged from the River Sid.
But the shingle, left on the beach prior to being moved, has been washed away by high tides and bad weather.
