Network Rail will spend £1 billion improving rail services in the south west...but Devon and Cornwall miss out on the majority of the investment.
Thousands of miles of lines will be electrified across the country by 2019. But the furthest down they'll go is Bristol.
£600 million will also be spent protecting tracks and bridges from weather damage. But those that left the south west cut off after flooding last month have been omitted from the plans.
The announcement comes days after fare rises across the whole of the network.
Our Business Correspondent Seth Conway reports:
Network Rail has announced a £9 billion investment in the West of England rail network.
The money will go towards measures to prevent flooding from causing major disruption to services. It's thought to be the biggest investment in the region's trains since the Victorian era.
