Rural areas cut off by the snow
People living in rural areas find themselves isolated during spells of snow.
None of the country lanes are cleared by snowploughs or gritted, so roads are impassable.

Watch the latest report from Duncan Sleightholme in Dorchester. The A35 was closed Westbound due to a jack- knifed lorry earlier today. It has now re-opened but travel conditions are still difficult.

Devon has been hit by heavy snow and blizzards this morning. Neighbouring Cornwall has missed the snow but there are reports of flooding.

Covering up: snow-dressed cars in Evershot
There's at least 10-15 cm of snow on the ground in the village of Evershot. The road is only just passable in a 4x4, despite the efforts of local farmers, who are clearing the roads using snowploughs on their tractors.

Sledges are out in Ashburton
Residents in Ashburton have welcomed the snow. They say the school run has been slow but enjoyable. The sledges are also out on the roads with children making the most of the weather.
