Lates from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue: The Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service attended to assist the home owner. Crews are still using breathing apparatus and making steady progress. A building inspector has been requested to attend.
Cottage fire latest: no one inside property
15 fire engines and around 70 firefighters are still on the scene at Downwater Cottages in Horns Cross, west of Bideford, after a fire engulfed a thatched cottage early this morning. Devon and Somerset fire and rescue service say no one is inside the property.
The A39 is closed between Clovelly Road and Buck's Cross.
