Two women had to be rescued from Ness beach in Shaldon, Devon after a rockfall blocked access to the tunnels leading to the car park. One of the women was pregnant.
Up to 30 firefighters were at the scene including a specialist search and rescue dog team.
The beach could remain closed for the bank holiday weekend.
Robbie Woods from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue says rockfalls are becoming more common after months of heavy rain:
Emergency services have rescued a pregnant woman and her friend who became trapped on a south Devon beach after a rock fall.
The rocks blocked access to the tunnel on Ness beach in Shaldon which leads to the car park.
The pair had been walking their dogs when the rock fall happened. Fire crews searched the area to make sure there was no-one buried under the rubble.
It's believed the beach will stay closed over the bank holiday weekend.
