The Miss World contest is a competition that divides opinion, many believing it's sexist and outdated - and last night as the final heats of the Miss England contest were held in Torquay - it seems it's divided opinion there too.
Those supporting the event say it's brought a welcome boost to the Bay, bringing the area international publicity. But some argue, it's not the kind of publicity Torbay needs. Claire Manning spent the evening at the competition.
There was plenty of glamour in Torquay last night as the finals of the Miss England competition were held, despite the winner momentarily losing her crown. The finalist from London will now go on to be a part of The Miss World competition in Indonesia in August.
The staging of the event in Torbay has been criticised by some, saying it's outdated & sends out the wrong message for the resort. 24 year old Kirsty Heslewood took the title. She has overcome chronic shyness to win the crown.
Jordan Williams, who entered the competition as Mr Rugby, won the title at the finals held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay.
He said; "My ambition after winning the title of Mr England is to help others less fortunate than myself and put a smile a day on people's faces around me and prove that Beauty Pageants are as much for men as they are for women."
