Missing Calne man took a train - report

Tom Edwards was last seen on Friday night and it was assumed he took a bus home from Swindon to Chippenham.

But now police have found CCTV of him boarding a train instead - and although the train was heading to Chippenham there is no guarantee he actually got off there. Karen Griggs reports.

Latest police statement

Wiltshire Police have issued a statement with new details of their search for missing Calne man Tom Edwards.

CCTV footage from Swindon railway station shows Mr Edwards boarding the 11.21pm train, which terminated in Bristol Temple Meads after stopping off at Chippenham and Bath.

The train stopped in Chippenham at 11.35pm.

Mr Edwards is described as of thin build with short brown hair. He has distinctive Ironman tattoos on his right leg and left arm which depict a red and white Austrian flag.

He was last seen wearing a red t-shirt, skinny blue jeans and red espadrilles.

"Officers have thoroughly reviewed hours of CCTV footage and we now believe that Mr Edwards boarded a train bound for Chippenham.

All indications up until this point indicated that Mr Edwards may have boarded a bus back to Chippenham as officers had taken him to a bus stop and we had CCTV of him waiting at this bus stop.

We are now working with our partners at Avon and Somerset Police and the British Transport Police.

This remains a missing persons enquiry but we have increased our resources in this investigation. We would urge anyone with any information to contact us immediately.”

Police ask people not to carry out searches

Wiltshire Police are asking people not to put on searches for missing Calne man Thomas Edwards. Mr Edwards hasn't been seen on Friday night in Swindon. Police say searches are being expertly co-ordinated and at this stage should be left to officers and trained volunteers.

These are co-ordinated searches in very specific locations and the officers and WILSAR volunteers are expertly trained in undertaking these searches.

I know that the local community is desperate to help, but I would ask that they seek the advice of local police officers before beginning any search of their own."
