Tour of Britain arrives in Sidmouth

Several roads will be closed in Sidmouth this evening as the Tour of Britain cycle race arrives in Devon. Road closures are in close from 5pm until 8pm in the town. These include: The Esplanade, Station Road, Chapel Road, Chapel Street, Dove Lane, New Street, Fore Street and Church Street.

Sir Bradley Wiggins is to lead Team Sky at this year's Tour of Britain event.

The Olympic champion and winner of last year's Tour De France will be winding through Devon in just 15 days.

Stage six of the race starts in Sidmouth and ends with a gruelling climb up Haytor on Dartmoor. It's estimated it'll bring more than £7 million into the county - as well as showing off Devon to a global television audience.

Cyclists and community react to Tour announcement

Devon's economy got a big sporting boost today with the news that cycling's Tour of Britain will once again be winding its way through the county in September. It is estimated it will bring more than £7 million into the county - as well as showing off Devon to a global television audience.

Last year's Tour De France and Olympic champion Sir Bradley Wiggins will be there, along with Mark Cavendish. Here is Matthias Kurth's full report.

Sidmouth prepares for the Tour of Britain

Professional cyclists will be in Sidmouth tomorrow as Devon County Council prepare for the arrival of the Tour of Britain.

Team UK Youth riders will be promoting the Devon Stage of the race. Sidmouth is the start venue of the stage which will cover 85 miles of Devon before the summit finish at Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. The Tour is in its tenth year.
