Jobs blow to Redruth

175 jobs are believed to be going at an engineering firm in Redruth. Pall Europe Limited says it's moving some of its operations abroad. It's been described as a devastating blow to the town.

Workers were told of the the company's plans today. The factory has been in the town for more than 30 years. The company's other factory near Newquay is not affected. Cllr Mike Eddowes and Redruth's Mayor Cllr Judy Davidson gave us these reactions.

Statement from Pall Europe on proposed job losses

The move is part of our continued effort to ensure we are appropriately structured to deliver high-quality products and superior service to our customers worldwide. This includes developing dedicated centres that improve the effectiveness of our operations and make it easier for customers to do business with Pall. The company recently opened a new state-of-the-art Life Sciences Centre of Excellence at its new Harbourgate site in Portsmouth, creating an important Life Sciences hub for Pall.
