Police officer assaulted in Weymouth

Four people have been arrested after a police officer was injured while dealing with a reported fight in Weymouth on Sunday morning.

The incident, in which a male officer was allegedly head-butted, happened at around 7.10am on Sunday 15 September 2013 along St. Mary Street.

The injured officer, was taken to Dorchester Hospital for treatment.

A 23-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and has been released on bail until early October 2013.

Two men and a woman, all aged in their twenties and from the Weymouth area, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and released on bail until early October 2013.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

I am extremely keen to speak with anyone who may have seen this incident take place, has details of the circumstances leading up to it, or may know those involved.

As part of our ongoing enquiries I would also like to speak to a man and a woman who were stood outside a nearby taxi office moments after the incident took place.

Witnesses to the incident should call Dorset Police on 101 as soon as possible. All calls will be treated in strictest confidence.
