Shelter: 'Scandal' of homeless children in B&Bs

The Shelter charity's report Nowhere to Go: the scandal of homeless children in bed and breakfasts says the West's 2000 homeless children are often housed with their families in unsuitable bed & breakfasts or emergency hostels. Families in the study have reported:

  • cramped conditions, often with families sharing one room
  • children sharing beds with parents or siblings
  • children eating meals off the floor or bed
  • overt drug use
  • threats of violence
