Four-time gold medallist Ellie Simmonds is best known for her achievements in the swimming pool but today the face of the Paralympics received an altogether different honour.

It came courtesy of the University of Bath which has awarded her an honorary degree. Prince Edward made the presentation - his first duty as the university's new chancellor.

Paralympic swimming star Ellie Simmonds has received an honorary degree from the University of Bath.

The four-times gold medallist joined hundreds of dignitaries at Bath Abbey.

Prince Edward made the presentation in his first role as the new chancellor of the university.
