Taxi drivers furious at sat nav ban

Taxi drivers in Bath and North East Somerset could be banned from using satellite navigation systems.

The council overseeing them says they should know their way around the area without needing a device to help them.

But many drivers say the idea is ridiculous.

Your thoughts on Bath's taxi sat nav ban

The proposal from BANES Council has prompted a strong response on the ITV West Country Facebook page. Here is a taster of your comments:

They have to learn the roads in London (The Knowledge). Why not in other big cities?

Absolutely ridiculous! Shouldn't BANES be focussing on more pressing issues?!

– Emma Ruddick

Good idea. Instead of trusting an often-wrong piece of equipment, the knowledge will come from local experience. Road works etc. don't show up on sat navs.

Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) is proposing a ban on the use of sat nav in taxis. It says taxi drivers should know the area well enough without having to rely on the devices. The new licensing conditions would also include smarter dress regulations.

A final decision will be made in the next few months.
