One of the oldest Banksy paintings is being cut out of the side of a boat. Grim Reaper, as it's known, has been on the side of the floating nightclub the Thekla in Bristol for more than 15 years but is being removed as it's getting so rusty. The owners of the Thekla have decided there's too much corrosion on what is now a valuable work of art and are having it cut out. Patrick Somers is the Promotions Manager, the Thekla.
Banksy's 'Grim Reaper' is being cut out from the side of the Thekla today while the boat is in dry dock for general maintenance. The artwork has been on the floating nightclub for the last 10 years. The company that owns the Thekla is working with Bristol City Council to protect the 'Grim Reaper' and it will go on display at M Shed in the next few months after the metal has been analysed and preserved.
