Bacteria causing a new illness similar to Lyme disease has been found in ticks across the south west of England.

The illness, which has yet to be named, is more resistant to antibiotics.

Like Lyme Disease, symptoms are flu-like, which can lead to it being misdiagnosed. They include headaches, muscle soreness and fever.

Borrelia miyamotoi has been found to be present in ticks in the UK by researchers at the Public Health Lab, in Porton Down, Wiltshire.

The bacterium was found in three of 954 ticks tested at various sites across southern England and analysed by the team last year.
