Snowploughs have been hard at work on the A39 over Exmoor this afternoon. The stretch between Porlock and the turn-off for Brendon 6 miles towards Lynmouth is still closed after strong winds created drifts over six feet high.
The road is currently blocked between Porlock Hill and the turning for Brendon 6 miles towards Lynmouth. High winds have created snowdrifts over 6 feet high and snowploughs equipped with blowers are working to clear the road. The temperature this afternoon was 3c at Porlock.
Our reporter David Woodland is out on the A39 over Exmoor and has just sent this picture. The road is still partially closed from the top of Porlock Hill to the turning for Oare, as high winds have created snowdrifts up to 6 feet deep. Snowploughs have been at work all afternoon.
Snowploughs and snow blowers are struggling to cope as very strong winds blow snow off the moor.
The A39 is still blocked in both directions due to snow between New Road (Oare, Exmoor) and Hall Hill (Brendon), on the Somerset/Devon border.
The A39 is blocked near Crealy and there are long delays due to an accident. Two vehicles are believed to be involved in the crash which happened between the A389 (Hals' Grave junction) and B3274 (Winnards Perch). Emergency services are at the scene.
Police in Somerset would like to hear from anyone who witnessed a serious crash in Bridgwater this afternoon. It took place between a cyclist and lorry near the Morrison's distribution centre in Bath Road.
The injured cyclist was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. The road has been closed while investigators examine the scene.
