Airport future to be discussed by councillors in Plymouth
The future of Plymouth City Airport will be discussed by the city council today.
More than 37,000 people have signed a petition calling for the airport to be run by the state. It closed last December, despite opposition. Developers want to build houses, shops and flats on the 113 acre site.

The terminal was closed last December because of a lack of business. The auction is opposed by campaigners who had hoped to see the airport re-opened.
Business Minister Mark Prisk will launch a new enterprise zone for Newquay airport. The Aerohub Zone will be an area dedicated to developments in the aerospace industry with a business park and aviation learning centre. The new enterprise zone could create more than seven hundred jobs.

Cornwall Council will today discuss the condition of the runway at St Mary's Airport on the Isles of Scilly. The airport was shut yesterday after a light aircraft overshot the runway and went through a hedge. No-one was injured.

The entire contents of Plymouth City Airport WILL be sold off in July. Auctioneers Peaker Pattison will be selling off runway vehicles, ticket machines and even cabins used by the former flying school.
The auction has attracted criticism from those who wanted the airport re-opened.
John Andrews reports on the new cycle track that's opened to by-pass a notoriously narrow stretch of access road on the way to Exeter Airport. It's already being used by airport employees and it's hoped it could lead to travellers arriving by bike at the terminal.
