Westcountry honours armed forces

Town halls across the west country will be honouring servicemen and women by flying the special Armed Forces Day flag this week. One will be raised at the Municipal Offices in Cheltenham this morning in the run up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

David Cameron attends event in Plymouth

He was asked what he thought the event meant for the servicemen and woman and said:

"This is about actually celebrating the enormous contribution the Armed Forces make every day of the year."

He added: "As prime minister it's a huge pleasure and a privilege to be involved in this coming together."

Thousands gather at Armed Forces Day parade in Plymouth

Thousands of people cheered troops as they paraded through Plymouth to mark the start of Armed Forces Day.

David Cameron and the Earl of Wessex attended the national event which supports British troops around the world.

There was a parade of about 1,200 service personnel, veterans and cadets on Plymouth Hoe.

Plymouth is the headquarters of 3 Commando Brigade.
