Coastguards warn of landslides

The public are being reminded of the dangers of landslides on a stretch of coastline where a young holidaymaker was killed. Five people escaped unhurt after a major rock fall along the Jurassic Coast near Charmouth, Dorset, yesterday.

The Coastguard said, "It comes just two weeks after Charlotte Blackman, 22, died when she was crushed by 400 tonnes of rock that fell on her at Hive Beach in Burton Bradstock during a cliff fall."

It happened just 10 miles from yesterday's incident.

Major landslip at Charmouth

Police and coastguard teams are tonight searching the beach near Charmouth following a large rockslip. It happened at Gabriel's Mouth east of Charmouth earlier today. Five people who were on the beach at the time are all safe and well.

The rescue helicopter is out inspecting the cliff tops to see if they are in imminent danger of collapse. Portland Coastguard is warning all users of the beach and the coastal path in the area to be aware of the risk. They say the cliffs are a real hazard at the moment.
