Jury retires to consider soldier death verdict

The jury in the Cornish soldier murder trial has retired to consider its verdict.

Twenty year old Dave Curnow was beaten to death last September in Chapel Street in Redruth.

The other man admitted murder at an earlier hearing and will be sentenced at the end of Hammond's trial at Truro Crown Court.

A court has been told that it was "bad luck" that a young Cornish soldier crossed the path of two men accused of murdering him.

Dave Curnow was attacked last September in Chapel Street in Redruth. He died the following day in hospital from severe injuries.

The jury has been told by the prosecution that Mr Curnow was assaulted for no reason - that he was punched during a three minute assault by the two men, falling to the ground three times.
