Firefighters battled for five hours to put out a fire in a seafront cafe in Torcross in Devon, which also spread to the guesthouse next door.
The alarm was raised at the Boat House cafe yesterday afternoon. Fire crews from across South Hams were brought in as well as the aerial ladder from Plymouth.
The first floor and roof were severely damaged by fire and smoke and water caused further damage at the restaurant, which was also affected in last week's storms.
Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say they believe it was caused accidentally.
Torbay Council is to vote this evening whether to call on Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to rethink reducing full time cover at Torquay.
There are fears this and other cuts to save the £5.5million required by the Government would put safety at risk.
A motion has been put forward asking the council to get the service to come up with other savings.
It also calls for a complete rethink of the proposals because of lack of consultation with council staff.

Half of the clubhouse has been destroyed by smoke.
