Inquest held into the death of a man in Plymouth flat fire

An inquest into the death of a man who died in a flat fire in Plymouth on New Year's morning, will be heard today.

George Somers, 43, died in the early hours as fire raged through his top storey flat in Union Street.

The former nurse was set to marry his partner Bart Somers, who managed to escape from the flat fire.

The inquest was formally opened in January when evidence of identification was given.

Teenager's parents criticise inquest delay

The family of a teenager who died at a mental health unit in Cornwall have criticised the three year delay in holding his inquest. Ben Cowburn was found dead in his room at the Longreach hospital in Redruth in December 2010. An inquest last week returned an open verdict.

Today his parents Steve and Sharon Cowburn said it was wrong that it took more than a thousand days from his death to hold the inquest. They said changes needed to be made in the process so families didn't have to wait so long.

Ben Cowburn's family want teenage mental health unit

Ben Cowburn's death at an adult mental health unit has spurred his family to try to improve the healthcare of other young people in Cornwall.

They have set up the Invictus Trust to try and push for a mental health unit in the county that is dedicated to teenagers.

Ben's sister Amber says that dream is now close to becoming a reality.
