It happened overnight at Oddicombe beach in Torquay. Police have cordoned off the area. Devon County Council initially closed the road nearby for a number of hours but it has reopened. Coastguards are warning people to stay away.

The family of a woman who died in a landslip in Cornwall have said it was a 'potentially avoidable tragedy'. The home of 68 year old Susan Norman from Looe collapsed following torrential rain on Friday.
Her family say the property's safety had been a concern of Susan's for some time and that contractors had been working on the property to support the retaining wall. The house is due to be demolished today.

As you imagine the mood is rather numbing for Susan's family and friends at this sad time.
We will get to the bottom of this potentially avoidable tragedy
The property's safety has been a concern of Susan's for some time as there have been two recent slips very close to house.
The wall directly behind the house has been showing signs of stress after the recent adverse weather conditions and flow of water from St Martin's Hill
Contractors were working on the property to support the retaining wall.

We also understand that other residents have voiced their concerns about the safety of the area prior to this tragedy.

"The town is in shock" after woman dies in Landslip
Cornwall Councillor Edwina Hannaford says the town of Looe is "in shock" after a woman was killed in a landslip.
The home of Susan Norman collapsed following torrential rain overnight. Councillor Hannaford said "Susan was a lovely, friendly and well liked lady who was a much valued volunteer."
Body found in partially collapsed house: full report
A body has been found in what remains of a house in Cornwall after it collapsed during torrential rain overnight following a major landslip.
The area around the home in Sandplace Road in Looe has been sealed off all day. Sniffer dogs were called in and this afternoon members of the emergency services found the body of what's believed to be Susan Norman inside.
Residents nearby are angry tonight as they say they've warned Cornwall Council on a number of occasions about the threat of landslips behind their homes.

The 68-year-old had not been seen since 6.50pm yesterday evening.
The body has not been identified or recovered at this time.
