Couple win battle over Cornwall home

Lower Manaton Farm near Callington Credit: Tony Atkin

A couple have won a two-year court fight for an academic's former West Country home.

Three appeal judges ruled that Lower Manaton - a house set in 15 acres near Callington, Cornwall - was "held on trust" for Roger Taylor and Denise Burkinshaw.

Judges heard that the house had belonged to Roger Taylor's late uncle, Bill Taylor - former director of art history at Sheffield Hallam University.

They were told that Roger Taylor and Ms Burkinshaw - and their two children - had moved from Sheffield to live with Bill Taylor more than a decade ago.

The couple claimed that Bill Taylor had promised to leave the property to them then gone back on a promise.

In 2011 a county court judge ruled in favour of Roger Taylor and Ms Burkinshaw - and the court of appeal has now upheld that ruling.
